genU is looking for a collaborative and capable Assistant Payroll Team Leader to support the accurate and compliant delivery of payroll services across our national footprint of more than 5,000 staff.

In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll combine strong end-to-end payroll expertise with a passion for supporting and guiding others. You’ll help keep payroll running smoothly day to day, provide practical coaching to the team, and step in to support the Team Leader when needed. Ensuring our people are paid accurately and on time, every time.

At genU, we’re a profit-for-purpose organisation, reinvesting our success back into programs to create real social impact. From disability and aged care support to community-focused initiatives, we’re here to help people live their best lives.

This role can be based at one of our hubs in Geelong, Hobart, Launceston or Perth.  However, we’re genuinely open to talent from anywhere in Australia. We believe great people thrive in different ways, which is why we’re committed to flexibility in location and work arrangements.

What you’ll do

As an Assistant Payroll Team Leader in our Payroll team, you’ll:

  • Support the delivery of accurate, timely end-to-end payroll processing, including timesheets, leave, allowances and adjustments.
  • Coordinate day-to-day workflow across the team, assisting with work allocation, prioritisation and quality checking.
  • Provide coaching, guidance and first-level escalation support to Payroll Officers, helping build capability and confidence.
  • Assist with reconciliations, compliance checks and reporting to ensure payroll outcomes align with legislation, awards/EBAs and internal policies.
  • Step in as delegate for the Team Leader when required, maintaining service continuity and stakeholder communication.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong operational payroll experience, with confidence across end-to-end processing in a complex environment.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating a payroll team (work allocation, checking work, handling escalations).
  • Solid systems capability (SAP Payroll/SuccessFactors) and strong Excel skills.
  • A supportive, calm and solutions-focused leadership style.
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and a genuine commitment to service.

(You’ll also need an NDIS Worker Screening Check and Orientation Module Certificate – but don’t worry, we’ll help guide you through this.)
