We’re looking for a motivated and capable Chef to oversee kitchen operations and support people with disability to learn new skills, build confidence and flourish in a supportive workplace at genU, within our Food Services division.
In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining high standards in food production and kitchen hygiene, while supporting employees with varying abilities as they contribute to daily kitchen operations. Each day presents new challenges, and you’ll use your skills and experience to ensure quality outcomes while keeping everyone engaged, supported and motivated.
You’ll work directly with supported employees, providing guidance, encouragement and practical support as they develop their skills in a real kitchen environment. This includes fostering a positive and inclusive workplace where individuals can grow their confidence and capabilities while working towards their full potential.
This role suits someone who is organised, detail-oriented and approachable, with strong communication skills and a practical, hands-on mindset. You take pride in maintaining high food standards while supporting people with disability to build independence, confidence and workplace skills.

What you’ll do
As a Chef, you'll:
- Provide training, guidance and day-to-day support to employees with varying abilities to help them succeed and reach their potential
- Plan and deliver seasonal, locally informed menus while maintaining high standards of food quality and kitchen hygiene
- Manage stock ordering, control costs, minimise waste and contribute to financial oversight of kitchen operations
- Ensure kitchen operations run efficiently, with products and services delivered in line with customer needs and expectations
- Lead, engage and support kitchen staff to maintain a positive, focused and productive team environment, even under pressure
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory, food safety and OH&S requirements, including audits, safe work practices and incident reporting
- Contribute to continuous improvement, complete administrative tasks accurately, participate in training, and support broader team operations across sites as required
What you’ll bring
- Certificate III Commercial Cookery
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Proven experience in high-volume cooking and commercial kitchen operations
- Ability to develop dynamic menus, cost recipes and manage within budget and cost-of-goods targets
- Sound knowledge of food safety standards, OH&S requirements and safe food handling practices
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to delegate tasks and adapt approach to different individuals
- High attention to detail, including food presentation and waste minimisation practices
- Willingness to share skills and knowledge with people of all abilities, along with a current driver’s licence
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience in large scale food delivery and catering environment
- Experience in food ordering, stock or inventory management
(You’ll also need an NDIS Worker Screening Check and Orientation Module Certificate – but don’t worry, we’ll help guide you through this.)
