Hey you!
We’re seeking a motivated and capable Employment Pathways Mentor to support individuals with disability on their journey toward meaningful employment through genU’s Employment Pathways program.
In this hands-on role, you’ll work directly with participants to deliver activities that can be packaged into tailored ‘employment pathways’ options for people with disability. This includes assessing the pre-employment and employment needs of individuals, assisting with employment-related capacity building, preparing participants for work, supporting them to achieve employment and assisting them to maintain employment. Supports may be delivered with individuals or within group settings.
This role suits someone who is organised, approachable and person-centred, with strong communication skills and a practical mindset, and who takes pride in empowering people with disability to build skills, confidence and independence.
Reporting to the relevant leader, you’ll play an important role in delivering innovative and creative supports that promote social inclusion and strengthen employment outcomes, while aligning with genU’s values and strategic goals.
At genU, we’re a profit-for-purpose organisation, reinvesting our success back into programs to create real social impact. From disability and aged care support to community-focused initiatives, we’re here to help people live their best lives.
What you’ll do
As an Employment Pathways Mentor, you'll:
- Support people with disability to work towards their employment goals using the genU customised employment model.
- Develop, update and review individualised discovery and employment plans with participants and key supports to guide goal achievement.
- Deliver capacity-building supports and activities to participants in individual and small group settings across genU, community and workplace environments.
- Facilitate activities such as discovery, goal setting, employment preparation, skills development, confidence building, and job skills analysis.
- Provide mentoring and on-the-job coaching during volunteering, work experience or paid employment, including post-placement support for participants and employers.
- Conduct pre-assessments for placements or employment to identify and support the needs of both participants and employers.
- Complete administrative and operational requirements including file notes, plans, reports, rosters, and compliance with genU policies, procedures and legislative requirements, while providing personal or behavioural supports where required.
What you’ll bring
- Minimum Certificate IV in Disability, Community Services, Employment Services or a related field.
- Working with Children Check and satisfactory Police Check(s).
- Strong commitment to inclusion of people with disability and alignment with genU’s mission and values.
- Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Maintain current First Aid certification and other mandatory training as required by genU policy.
- Ability to transport participants, including a current driver’s licence, access to a vehicle, and fully comprehensive insurance.
(You’ll also need an NDIS Worker Screening Check and Orientation Module Certificate – but don’t worry, we’ll help guide you through this.)
Bonus points if you have
- Previous experience working in the disability sector or a related field
- Previous experience working within the employment services sector
- Experience supporting people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- Experience working within the NDIS and/or DHHS environment
