Hey you!

genU is looking for a values-driven Senior Legal Counsel to step into our legal team at one of Australia’s largest non-for-profit organisations! In this role you will join our small, high-performing legal team that supports every corner of our organisation - and will close your laptop at the end of the day knowing that you have made a vital, community-wide impact whilst being enabled to enjoy fulfilling flexibility and work-life balance.

You will work closely with the experienced General Counsel and our junior legal counsels, while enjoying the benefit of genuine flexibility, hybrid working and the satisfaction of knowing your work creates meaningful social impact.

At genU, we’re a profit-for-purpose organisation, reinvesting our success back into programs to create real social impact. From disability and aged care support to community-focused initiatives, we’re here to help people live their best lives.

We're open to flexible hours or arrangements because great people thrive in different ways.

What you’ll do

As Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll lead and shape legal work across complex, high‑value, and organisation‑wide legal matters including:

  • Acting as a trusted advisor to senior executives and stakeholders across the business.
  • Leading the drafting, negotiation and strategic oversight of complex commercial contracts, property agreements, major procurement arrangements and organisational policies.
  • Providing authoritative legal advice on governance, commercial law, regulatory compliance and organisational risk.
  • Steering legal workstreams for significant organisational projects, growth initiatives and reforms.
  • You’ll finish work on time, as a pivotal and valued member of the team making a fulfilling and important impact.

What you’ll bring

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) / Juris Doctor from a recognised institution with an unrestricted practising certificate. Ideally with a minimum of 5-6 years’ PQE.
  • A strong combination of experience across In‑house and Private practice settings.
  • Extensive experience delivering strategic legal advice in complex corporate, commercial, government or not‑for‑profit environments.
  • Strong judgement, commercial acumen and the confidence to advise senior leaders across the organisation.
  • Excellent relationship‑building skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Enthusiasm for our sector and a values‑aligned approach to your work– no prior industry experience in the care section is required.

(You’ll also need an NDIS Worker Screening Check and Orientation Module Certificate – but don’t worry, we’ll help guide you through this.)
