genU is looking for a resilient and people-focused Senior Payroll Officer to help lead the accurate and compliant delivery of payroll services across our national footprint of more than 5,000 staff. In this important role, you’ll bring strong SAP expertise, a calm head under pressure, and a genuine human touch, supporting our people through complex payroll matters while ensuring everyone is paid accurately and on time, every time.

At genU, we’re a profit-for-purpose organisation, reinvesting our success back into programs to create real social impact. From disability and aged care support to community-focused initiatives, we’re here to help people live their best lives.

This role can be based at one of our hubs in Geelong, Hobart, Launceston or Perth.  However, we’re genuinely open to talent from anywhere in Australia. We believe great people thrive in different ways, which is why we’re committed to flexibility in location and work arrangements.

What you’ll do

As a Senior Payroll Officer in our Payroll team, you’ll:

  • Be our go-to person for complex payroll matters — from overpayment management and long service leave reconciliations to terminations, ETPs and tricky award/EBA interpretations.
  • Take ownership of key payroll governance activities, including reconciliations (LSL and leave liabilities), variance investigations, reporting, audit preparation, and month-end/year-end and STP processes.
  • Partner closely with HR and Finance to work through nuanced payroll situations, providing clear, practical advice that balances compliance with a positive employee experience.
  • Dive into discrepancies to understand the “why,” not just the “what” — strengthening processes, improving controls and helping us continuously lift our payroll standards.
  • Support the day-to-day flow of work across the team and step in as delegate for the Team Leader when needed to keep things running smoothly.

What you’ll bring

  • Relevant qualification in HR, Payroll or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in operational payroll roles, with strong technical payroll knowledge and experience managing complex leave and long service leave accruals.
  • Essential: Demonstrated experience working with SAP Payroll.
Highly regarded: SuccessFactors and WorkForce Software (WFS).
  • Strong Excel capability and confidence working across payroll reporting and reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide others, manage competing priorities and handle escalations in a fast-paced environment, with a proactive and service-oriented approach.

(You’ll also need an NDIS Worker Screening Check and Orientation Module Certificate – but don’t worry, we’ll help guide you through this.)

Why you’ll love working at genU

At genU, our differences make us stronger. We celebrate all kinds of diversity and the unique perspectives each of us brings.

We’re committed to creating a welcoming, safe, and respectful space where everyone feels valued and can thrive.

You’ll also get

  • Salary packaging - up to $15,900 tax-free plus meal/entertainment benefits
  • Additional Leave – we provide 15 personal days per annum that’s 5 above NES
  • Purchased leave options - the ability to buy additional annual leave to support work-life balance and flexibility.
  • Discounts - savings at 450+ retailers including Coles, Woolworths & JB Hi-Fi
  • University Study Discount - Enjoy a 25% fee reduction for undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Torrens University.
  • Wellbeing support - 24/7 access to a holistic employee assistance program
  • Referral bonus - bring great people with you and be rewarded
